Muralikant Petkar used to wrestle and wanted to pursue a career in sports. But due to the pressure to earn money, he joined the Indian Army. He started boxing from the Indian Army. While still in the army, Muralikant was hit by 9 bullets in the war against Pakistan in 1965. He was seriously injured and went into a coma, he also lost his arm.
Despite facing so many problems in life, Muralikant Petkar did not give up. He won a gold medal for the country in the 1972 Paralympics held in Germany. He had won this gold medal in 50m freestyle swimming. Muralikant Petkar was honored with the Padma Shri Award in 2018 for his contribution to the country.
