“Is Virat Kohli’s Dominance Coming to an End?”
India’s star batsman, Virat Kohli, has officially retired from international T20 cricket, choosing to focus on Test matches and One-Day Internationals (ODIs) as he nears the twilight of his career. Kohli, who has already etched his name into cricket’s history books with numerous records, remains one of the most celebrated cricketers of the modern era.
Virat Kohli Poor Forms Continues
However, his form has dipped over the past year. Despite holding the top spot in ODIs for centuries, Kohli’s performance in Test cricket has slowed down. His last Test century came against the West Indies on July 20, 2023, when he scored 121 runs at Port of Spain. Since then, in the three Test matches that followed, Kohli hasn’t crossed the century mark, with scores of 38, 76, 46, 12, and 6 in his last five Test innings.
The story in ODIs is similar. Kohli hasn’t scored a century in nearly a year. His last ODI century came during the 2023 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand on November 15. Since then, he has struggled, recording scores of 54, 24, 14, and 20 runs in his last five ODI matches, managing just 58 runs in a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in August 2023.
Impossible for Kohli to Break Sachin 100s Century Record
At 35 years old, Kohli’s pursuit of breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of 100 international centuries seems increasingly challenging. Kohli currently has 80 international centuries, and to surpass Tendulkar’s record, he would need to score 21 more. With his recent dip in form, experts believe it is becoming increasingly difficult for Kohli to reach Tendulkar’s legendary milestone.
As Kohli continues his cricket journey, fans and cricket enthusiasts worldwide will be watching closely, hoping for a resurgence in form in both Test matches and ODIs.
