Ravichandran Ashwin Breaks Anil Kumble’s Record in IND vs BAN Test Match
The second day’s play of the ongoing second Test match between India and Bangladesh was called off after the lunch break due to rain. India won the toss and elected to bowl first, making an impactful start by taking three wickets in the first session—two by Akashdeep and one by R. Ashwin. With the dismissal of Bangladesh captain Najmul Hussain Shanto, Ashwin achieved a significant milestone.
Ravichandran Ashwin has now become the highest wicket-taker for an Indian bowler in Asia, surpassing the legendary Anil Kumble. Kumble previously held the record with 419 wickets, while Ashwin has now claimed 420 wickets in Asia. Although Ashwin leads in the Asian context, he is currently second at the international level, with Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan holding the top position with 612 wickets in Asia. Ashwin will need to take an additional 193 wickets to surpass Muralitharan, a challenging task ahead.
