India Sets Record for Fastest Team Fifty and Hundred in Test Cricket
The second Test match between India and Bangladesh at Green Park, Kanpur, has become historic, with Team India breaking the record for the fastest fifty and hundred runs in Test cricket. On the fourth day of the match, openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal made headlines by reaching the 50-run mark in just 3 overs, surpassing England’s previous record, which was achieved against the West Indies at Trent Bridge earlier this year in 4.2 overs.
Fastest Team Hundred
Team India didn’t stop there; they also set a new record for the fastest hundred runs in Test cricket, scoring 103 runs in just 10.1 overs. This achievement eclipsed their previous record of reaching 100 runs in 12.2 overs against the West Indies in 2023 and broke Sri Lanka’s record of 13.1 overs, set against Bangladesh in 2001.
Rohit Sharma’s Explosive Start
Rohit Sharma kicked off the innings explosively, hitting two sixes in his brief stay at the crease. He scored 23 runs off just 11 balls, including three sixes and a four, before being dismissed by Mehdi Hasan Miraj.
The Need for Speed
Team India’s rapid scoring was partly necessitated by weather conditions, which had caused the cancellation of the second and third days of the Test due to rain and a wet ground. Only 35 overs were played on the first day, leaving India with limited time to secure a result. On the fourth day, they bowled Bangladesh out for 233 runs and aimed to build a substantial lead to avoid a draw on the fifth day.
With this remarkable performance, Team India not only set new records but also showcased their determination to secure victory in challenging circumstances.
