State Bureau, Ranchi: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has prepared a solid strategy to return to power in the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections. The party is determined to implement it strictly. JMM will not succumb to the pressure from Congress or other constituents of the INDIA (I.N.D.I. Alliance) when it comes to seat sharing. JMM will play the role of the ‘big brother.’
The party’s strategists have reiterated this repeatedly, which carries significant political implications. The remaining gaps have been filled by the results of the Haryana Assembly elections. Despite exit poll trends, Congress did not achieve expected success in Haryana and had to go on the back foot. This increases the pressure on the regional party, JMM, in Jharkhand.
Focus on Each Seat
In a meeting held on Wednesday in New Delhi with senior Congress leaders, it was discussed that JMM will focus on each seat individually. If Congress stakes a claim on a seat, it will have to clarify whether the candidate is capable of winning or not. Seats will not be given merely based on claims; each seat will be carefully assessed. Therefore, JMM will dominate Congress in seat-sharing discussions in the state.
Congress is not in a strong position to exert pressure. The meeting was attended by Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, National President of Congress, and General Secretary KC Venugopal.
‘Congress Shouldn’t Be Under Any Illusions’
Recently, when the state Congress in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir stated in a party meeting that the Congress could also have a Chief Minister if they win 25-30 seats, JMM strongly objected to it. The party even said that Congress should not be under any illusions. JMM is prepared to contest all 81 seats if necessary. However, Congress quickly clarified this statement, with Mir explaining that the remark was made to boost the morale and enthusiasm of party workers.
Increased Activity After Durga Puja
JMM’s activity regarding seat-sharing will increase after the end of Durga Puja. On October 14, a meeting of the party’s extended central committee has been called. In this meeting, Working President Hemant Soren will strategize preparations at the grassroots level. The responsibility of publicizing and ensuring the benefits of the government’s welfare schemes will rest on the shoulders of the party workers.
