The central government’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative has significantly impacted sales of Chinese goods across India, resulting in a potential loss of Rs 1.25 lakh crore for Chinese traders, as reported by the All India Confederation of Traders. Praveen Khandelwal, General Secretary of the Confederation and MP from Delhi’s Chandni Chowk, stated that Diwali shopping has begun with a strong preference for Indian-made products, which now constitute about 90% of items in the market. Khandelwal emphasized that the support for local products is creating positive momentum, urging citizens to prioritize Indian goods for Diwali purchases.
In addition, the National President of the All India Jewelers and Goldsmiths Federation (AIJGF), Pankaj Arora, highlighted an increase in gold and silver sales during Dhantrayodashi. Gold sales reached Rs 20,000 crore and silver sales Rs 2,500 crore on this auspicious day, with nearly 2 lakh BIS-registered jewelers across India reportedly selling 25 tonnes of gold and 250 tonnes of silver in a single day.
