State Bureau, Ranchi: Following the orders of the Election Commission of India, officials who had been transferred during the election period were reinstated to their original positions immediately after the Chief Minister took the oath. Once again, 1989-batch IPS officer Ajay Kumar Singh has been removed from the position of DGP (Director General of Police) and appointed as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Jharkhand Police Housing Corporation Limited, Ranchi. Anurag Gupta, CID DGP, has been given additional charge as the DGP of Jharkhand.
Ajit Peter Dungdung Appointed as SP, Deoghar
Anurag Gupta will also continue to hold additional responsibilities as DGP of ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau). Ajit Peter Dungdung, Commander of JAP-5 (Jharkhand Armed Police) in Deoghar, has been transferred and appointed as SP (Superintendent of Police) of Deoghar. Dungdung will also retain charge as Commander of JAP-5. Meanwhile, Amber Lakra, SP of Deoghar, has been transferred and appointed as Commander of JAP-3, Govindpur, while also holding additional charge as SP Railways, Dhanbad. The Home, Prison, and Disaster Management Department issued a notification regarding these changes on Thursday evening.
DGP Ajay Kumar Singh Was Also Removed on July 26
The Hemant Soren government had previously removed 1989-batch IPS officer Ajay Kumar Singh from the position of regular DGP of Jharkhand Police on July 26, appointing him as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Jharkhand Police Housing Corporation Limited. At that time, Anurag Gupta was made the acting DGP of Jharkhand. However, following the notification of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, the Election Commission directed the reinstatement of Ajay Kumar Singh as DGP on October 19, replacing Anurag Gupta. Now, the state government has repeated its July 26 decision.
Anurag Gupta’s Tenure Has Been Controversial
The tenure of Jharkhand’s new acting DGP, Anurag Gupta, has been marred by controversies. While serving as ADG (Additional Director General), he faced allegations of misuse of his position. Additionally, in the 2016 Rajya Sabha elections, Anurag Gupta was accused of offering inducements to Nirmala Devi, then a Congress MLA from Barkagaon, to vote in favor of the BJP candidate. He was also accused of threatening her husband. However, Ranchi police gave him a clean chit in the matter.
