Ranchi: Paddy procurement centers will start operating in various blocks of Ranchi district from December 15 this year. The government has set a target of procuring three lakh quintals of paddy for farmers this season.
Last year, only 1.2 lakh quintals of paddy were procured, but with better crop yields and favorable conditions this year, the target is expected to be met. Paddy with up to 17% moisture content will be accepted this time.
To provide the maximum benefit of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers, a limit of 200 quintals per farmer has been set for paddy procurement. Purchases exceeding this limit will require special approval.
Nine Rice Mills Linked with 42 LAMPS
To streamline the process, nine rice mills have been linked with 42 Large Area Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPS) in the district. This step will help ensure the proper transportation and storage of paddy.
Payment of ₹2,400 per Quintal for Paddy
The state government has set separate MSP rates for common and Grade-A paddy this year. Farmers will be paid ₹2,400 per quintal for common paddy and ₹2,420 per quintal for Grade-A paddy. This includes a bonus of ₹100 per quintal over the central MSP of ₹2,300 and ₹2,320, respectively.
In Ranchi district, 11,300 farmers are registered for procurement. The administration aims to encourage maximum participation from farmers. After delivering paddy at the centers, farmers will receive 50% of the payment upfront, with the remaining amount to be paid later.
