Instagram Bride Scam: There have been countless examples of how fake people and their friendships and love on social media can be. Yet, someone gets caught in this web of deception every day. A shocking incident has occurred in Moga city, Punjab. Deepak (24), who works in Dubai, returned to his hometown in Jalandhar district, Punjab, a month ago for a wedding. His wedding date was Friday. For this, the groom arrived in Moga city with a party of 150 guests. The groom reached the wedding venue in a decorated wedding car, wearing a sherwani and a headscarf, but his dream bride was not there. The question now is: does the young woman named Manpreet Kaur, whom he met on Instagram, even exist?
What’s the Matter?
Deepak and Manpreet Kaur met on Instagram three years ago. Their love blossomed over chatting and later calling. They decided to get married over the phone. Both their parents discussed the marriage over the phone. The wedding date was set for December 6. Deepak and his family planned to get married with ten to twelve guests. But the bride’s family said, “Bring a good 150 people, no problem.” On Friday, Deepak arrived with a wedding party of 150 guests. But it turned out that the wedding hall in Moga city that the bride’s family had told them about did not exist.
The groom arrived in Moga on Friday afternoon. Deepak called Manpreet, and she said that some of her people were coming to pick up the groom. But despite waiting for five hours, no one came. After a while, Deepak tried calling Manpreet repeatedly, but her phone was switched off. After waiting for five hours, the groom finally went to the local police station and filed a complaint against Manpreet and her alleged family. During the complaint, Deepak narrated all the incidents of the past three years.

Deepak said that they had never met face-to-face before. He had only seen her photo. Now, the question arises: was it even her photo? Manpreet had told him that the wedding would be held at Rose Garden Palace. But there is no such wedding hall in Moga. Additionally, Manpreet had asked for Rs 50,000 for the wedding expenses. Deepak also mentioned that he had been cheated into sending this amount online.
Moga City South Police Station Superintendent Harjinder Singh said, “We have registered a complaint from Deepak’s family. We have sought information about the numbers through which Manpreet Kaur was communicating and will soon arrest the accused.”
