Priyanka Gandhi Sports ‘Palestine’ Bag in Parliament, Sparks Debate
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi is in the spotlight after being seen carrying a bag with the word “Palestine” written on it in Parliament on Monday. The photo of Priyanka Gandhi with the bag was shared on social media by Congress spokesperson Shama Mohammad. In the image, Priyanka Gandhi is seen smiling while carrying the bag on her shoulder. Following the post, reactions poured in, with many questioning the appropriateness of carrying such a bag in Parliament.
One user pointed out that on Victory Day, when India, under the leadership of Indira Gandhi, defeated Pakistani forces in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), it was inappropriate for Priyanka Gandhi to show support for groups like Hamas. The user suggested that Priyanka should have chosen something more appropriate to symbolize India’s victory on this significant day, rather than endorsing Palestine.
Some, however, praised Priyanka Gandhi for carrying the bag, with many expressing their opinions through likes and comments on the post.
Priyanka Gandhi Raises Bangladesh Minority Issue in Lok Sabha
During a speech in the Lok Sabha, Priyanka Gandhi raised concerns about the atrocities faced by Hindu and Christian minorities in Bangladesh, urging the government to speak out against such acts and show support for the affected communities.
In response, the BJP accused her of Muslim appeasement, which Priyanka Gandhi denied, stating that telling people what to wear and do is an example of patriarchy. She added that she doesn’t believe in patriarchy and will wear whatever she wants.
Previous Instances of Priyanka Gandhi Using Accessories to Make a Statement
This isn’t the first time Priyanka Gandhi has used accessories to make a statement. A week earlier, she had carried a bag with a photo of PM Modi and businessman Gautam Adani, with the text “Modi-Adani Bhai-Bhai.”
Additionally, following her victory in the Wayanad elections, Priyanka Gandhi was congratulated by Abed Elrajaeg Abu Jazzer, the charge d’affaires of the Palestinian Embassy in New Delhi, which also sparked criticism.
The Ongoing Conflict in Palestine
The conflict between Israel and Hamas in Palestine has intensified, with military operations from both sides. After a Hamas attack on Israel in October last year, a war broke out, leading to the deaths of hundreds of Israeli civilians. In retaliation, Israeli forces launched military operations in Palestine, resulting in thousands of Palestinian casualties, and many others were displaced. The war continues, and there are no clear solutions to halt the ongoing violence.
Support for Palestine has been growing worldwide as people express their concern over the casualties and destruction in the ongoing war.
