Jagdeep Dhankhar: Chairman of Rajya Sabha
The final week of the winter session of Parliament was marked by discussions on the One Nation, One Election Bill, Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, and a scuffle between ruling and opposition MPs near the Makardwari gate of Parliament. Reacting to these developments, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar remarked, “The world is watching our democracy.”
The World Is Watching Our Democracy
Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed displeasure over the conduct of MPs during the session. He stated, “The world looks at our democracy, yet we are belittling the expectations of the citizens through our conduct. We are making a mockery of the trust and expectations of the people through our actions in Parliament. Our fundamental duty is to serve the citizens, but we are neglecting it.”
Speaking further on the issues, Dhankhar said, “Where there should be rational dialogue, we are witnessing chaos. I appeal to every MP, regardless of their party affiliation, to reflect on this with a clear conscience.” These remarks were shared on the official X account of the Vice President of India.
Amit Shah’s Statement on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during a recent speech in the Rajya Sabha, remarked, “It has become fashionable to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. If someone had taken the name of God this many times, they would have earned a place in heaven.” Following this statement, opposition parties reacted strongly, demanding Shah’s resignation.
Scuffle in Parliament Leaves Two MPs Injured
Yesterday, India Aghadi MPs staged a protest march in the Parliament building area against Amit Shah’s statement. During this time, a scuffle broke out near Makardwari gate as ruling and opposition MPs clashed. As a result, two BJP MPs, Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, sustained injuries. Sarangi alleged that he was injured by Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi. Subsequently, the BJP filed a complaint of attempted murder against Rahul Gandhi at the Parliament Street police station in Delhi.
