Delhi CM Atishi: With Delhi assembly elections approaching, the announcement is expected in the next few months. However, significant political developments are already unfolding in Delhi ahead of the elections. The AAP government has been announcing major schemes for Delhiites. Among these, the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ and the Sanjeevani Yojana have become focal points of heated political debates.
Under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, women are being registered to receive its benefits. However, the Women and Child Welfare Department of the Delhi government has stated that no such scheme is currently being implemented, creating confusion within the government itself.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal recently announced the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, under which beneficiary women would receive ₹1,000 monthly. Registration for the scheme has also reportedly begun. However, the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare has objected to the announcement. Addressing this issue in a press conference on Wednesday, CM Atishi criticized the conflicting statements and warned of strict administrative action against the officials responsible for issuing contradictory public notices.
CM Atishi specifically mentioned that two officials—the Joint Director of the Women and Child Development Department and the Special Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department—would face strict action for denying the registration process. Showing a copy of the Cabinet-approved notification for the Mahila Samman Yojana, she emphasized that it clearly outlined the provision of a ₹1,000 allowance to women. Atishi also announced an inquiry into the Delhi Police for allegedly issuing misleading public notices.
Arvind Kejriwal’s Response
Arvind Kejriwal accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of being intimidated by the positive reception of AAP’s schemes and door-to-door campaigns. He claimed that the BJP lacks a chief ministerial candidate, a clear agenda, or issues to present to voters before the upcoming elections.
Circular by the Delhi Women and Child Welfare Department
The Women and Child Development Department issued a circular denying that the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana is being implemented. The statement, shared by ANI, clarified:
“We have come to know through social media and the media that a political party is claiming to provide ₹2,100 per month to women in Delhi under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana. However, it is clarified that no such scheme is being implemented by the Delhi government.”
The circular further stated:
“Since no such scheme is being implemented by the Delhi government, there is no question of accepting applications for registration in this regard. If any person or political party is collecting information from women under the guise of registration for this scheme, they are committing fraud and have no authority to do so.”
