BJP’s Gogo Didi Scheme Faces Allegations of Misuse and Fraud
In the recently concluded assembly elections, the BJP announced the Gogo Didi Scheme, promising a monthly honorarium of ₹2100 for women if they came to power, in response to the Mainya Samman Yojana introduced by the Hemant Soren-led government. However, the BJP’s scheme has been surrounded by allegations of fraud and exploitation.
JMM Accuses BJP of Extorting Money from Women
The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has accused BJP members of charging women ₹500 per form under the Gogo Didi Scheme. According to the allegations, during the elections, BJP workers collected ₹500 for each Gogo Didi form filled out by women.
The JMM has promised to ensure that the money extorted from women will be returned by the state government. Party General Secretary Supiryo Bhattacharya held a press conference on Saturday where he labeled the BJP’s scheme as fraudulent. He further challenged the central government by questioning why the Gogo Didi Scheme was not implemented at the national level if they genuinely cared about women’s empowerment.
Hemant Soren’s Focus on Women Empowerment
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren had promised to increase the Mainya Samman Rashi to ₹2500 starting December, which has been fulfilled. This makes Jharkhand the first state to provide ₹2500 per month to 56 lakh women. Those who haven’t received the December payment will receive ₹5000 in a lump sum.
JMM Criticizes BJP’s Inaction on MSP
Soren also mocked BJP’s state president Babulal Marandi, claiming he had not yet been appointed the leader of the legislative party even a month after the formation of the assembly. Soren sarcastically asked Marandi to clarify when he had ever procured paddy at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) during his tenure.
The Fate of Farmers Under BJP Rule
Soren also pointed out the plight of hundreds of farmers who lost their lives, despite the central government’s promises. He noted that the Union Agriculture Minister had stayed in Jharkhand for four months, but the situation did not improve.
JMM Promises Action
Soren reassured that all government appointments for the year would be completed soon, urging the youth not to fall for the BJP’s deceptive schemes.
The BJP’s Gogo Didi Scheme
Before the Jharkhand assembly elections, BJP launched the Gogo Didi Scheme, where they promised ₹2100 monthly to women if they came to power. The BJP initiated a campaign from October 5, with a target of collecting 100 forms per booth across the state.
