Naxalites Blow Up Police Vehicle in Bijapur with IED Blast
Naxalites carried out a major attack in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. On Monday, a vehicle carrying police personnel was blown up by an explosive device planted by the Naxalites. In this tragic incident, a total of nine people, including eight policemen and a driver, were martyred, ANI reported.
The blast occurred on the Bedre-Kutu road in Bijapur district. At least 20 soldiers were returning from an anti-Naxal operation on January 5 (Sunday) when the Naxalites detonated an IED. As a result, nine people—eight soldiers and the driver—lost their lives, police confirmed.
The attack comes shortly after five Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region. This encounter occurred on Saturday evening when a joint team of security forces was conducting an anti-Naxal operation in the forests of Dakshin Abuzmad, located on the border of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts. Four Naxalites were found dead early on Sunday, while another body was recovered later, an official told PTI. Dantewada DRG Head Constable Sannu Karam was also martyred during the operation.
IG Bastar stated that the anti-Naxal operation in the Dakshin Abuzmad forest area was carried out by the STF in coordination with DRG teams from the districts of Narayanpur, Dantewada, Jagdalpur, and Kondagaon.
