Rohit Sharma Has a Future in Stand-Up Comedy, Says Simon Katich
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy did not go well for Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Rohit failed to reach double figures even once in the five-match Test series against Australia, scoring only 31 runs in 5 innings. Following his disappointing performance, Rohit decided to rest during the Sydney Test and did not play in the match. This decision led to speculation about the end of his Test career. However, Rohit clarified in an interview on the second day of the Sydney Test that he is not retiring.
Former Australian cricketer Simon Katich has since made a bold statement regarding Rohit Sharma’s future. Katich warned that regaining form in Test cricket, especially in England, would not be easy for the Indian captain. Speaking to Star Sports, Katich highlighted Rohit’s poor form over the last six months, stating that opening the batting in Test cricket might no longer be ideal for the 37-year-old.
“If you look at Rohit’s statistics, they are very disappointing, and we saw that in this series as well. It was a selfless decision for him to rest during the Sydney Test,” Katich said.
In a lighthearted remark, Katich added, “I saw Rohit’s interview, and he is very well-spoken. After retiring from cricket, he could take up stand-up comedy because his sense of humor is excellent.”
Rohit Sharma, in his interview with Star Sports during the lunch break on the second day of the Sydney Test, clarified that his decision to rest was for the benefit of the team and reiterated that he has no plans to retire from Test cricket.
Looking ahead, the Indian team will return to Test cricket in June with a tour of England. Considering Rohit’s age, the series is expected to be challenging. Katich commented, “Rohit is 37, and only he knows whether he still has the hunger to score big runs at this age. England will not be an easy place to bounce back, especially against their young and talented fast bowlers like Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse, who are performing brilliantly.”
The England tour begins on June 20, and if Rohit Sharma is selected, the series could be pivotal in determining the future of his Test career.
