A food vlogger shared a video on Instagram showing a recipe for blue colored ghee rice with a quirky twist on the traditional ghee rice recipe. Well, it’s a new food trend that’s getting mixed reactions from netizens. Instagram user ‘thecookingamma’ shared this video last week. The ingredients of the recipe are shared in the caption of the video.
Blue Rice Ingredients:
- Gokarma flowers – 20 flowers
- Ghee – 2 teaspoons
- coarse masala
- salt – 1 tablespoon
- Basmati rice – 1 cup
- water – 3 cups
- Cashews – 10
- raisins – 10
- Chopped onion – 1 cup
- bay leaves – 2
This food vlogger has prepared this blue rice using butterfly pea flowers. At the beginning of the video, the woman washes the flowers and separates the petals. Put 1 cup of basmati rice in a bowl and cover it for 15 minutes. Boil water in a pot and put gokarna flowers in it. After boiling, she removes the flowers with a spoon. Put the rice soaked in the blue water in the bowl. Ghee is added to the rice after it is cooked. Heat some ghee in another pan and add spices, bay leaves, cashew nuts, raisins, chopped onion and chopped green chillies. After a few seconds add the cooked blue rice and saute. Blue colored rice grows in a plate.

The video has received nearly 15 million views on Instagram since it was posted online. The comment section of the post was filled with mixed reactions. One person clearly did not like the dish. He says “God I’ll never eat that.” Another person had a similar opinion, “Looking at that bright blue rice made me hungry.”
“Eating this rice seems like a crime,” commented another. “Love the color and the flower, but don’t make blue rice,” said another.
But many others liked this unique dish and appreciated the experiment. “Add a few drops of lemon juice, it will turn purple,” said one person. “The recipe is good,” said others, “Wow.”
