Wrestling Federation of India Office Returns to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s Residence
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) office has been relocated to its former address, which is the residence of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former WFI president. This decision has raised eyebrows, considering the allegations of sexual harassment against Singh by several female wrestlers.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who served as WFI president for several years, faced serious accusations of sexual exploitation from prominent wrestlers, including Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik and internationally renowned wrestler Vinesh Phogat. The allegations led to widespread protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, ultimately resulting in Singh’s resignation from the post. Following his resignation, the WFI office was shifted away from his residence. However, it has now returned to Singh’s house at 21, Ashoka Road, Delhi, as reported by The Indian Express.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s Continued Influence
After stepping down as WFI president, Singh supported his close associate Sanjay Singh, who won the federation’s elections and is now serving as the current president. Despite not being granted a ticket in the recent Lok Sabha elections, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh appears to maintain influence over the WFI. Moving the office back to his residence has sparked concerns over his increasing control within the organization.
Singh’s son, Karan Bhushan Singh, is an MP representing the Kaiserganj constituency in Uttar Pradesh, ensuring the family’s political stronghold remains intact. Meanwhile, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh continues to face trial in the Delhi High Court over the sexual harassment allegations. Despite the ongoing case, his connections to the wrestling federation remain unbroken, raising questions about accountability and transparency within the organization.
WFI Office Relocation Sparks Controversy
Commenting on the relocation, Singh told ANI, “The Indian government cannot decide where the office of the Wrestling Federation of India should be located.” His statement has drawn criticism from activists and supporters of the aggrieved wrestlers, who see the move as an attempt to reassert his influence over the WFI.
This development underscores the challenges of ensuring systemic reforms in Indian sports organizations, especially in the wake of serious allegations. Wrestlers and their supporters continue to call for greater accountability within the WFI to prevent such controversies from undermining the credibility of the sport.
