IND vs ENG: Michael Vaughan Criticizes Suryakumar Yadav’s Aggressive Approach
Indian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav is known for his explosive batting in the shortest format of the game. However, he has struggled to score runs in the ongoing T20I series against England. Suryakumar has failed to make an impact in the first three matches, with his aggressive style of play leading to early dismissals.
In the third T20I, he was dismissed in the powerplay while attempting a flick shot. Former England captain Michael Vaughan has criticized his approach, stating that his over-aggressiveness is causing him to lose his wicket cheaply.
Michael Vaughan on Suryakumar Yadav’s Batting Struggles
Vaughan pointed out that Suryakumar has hardly spent any time at the crease during the series, facing just 17 balls in three matches and scoring only 26 runs.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Vaughan said:
“When you say always be aggressive, it means choosing the right ball and then attacking. You can’t hit boundaries on every ball. India must play at their best because they are world champions. The only way for players to regain form is by spending time at the crease.”
He further added:
“At the moment, Suryakumar Yadav is playing some good shots, but in the blink of an eye, he gets out without making any significant contribution.”
Vaughan’s Advice: Shift Gears When Needed
The former England captain suggested that Suryakumar should have adjusted his game in Rajkot, where India was not chasing a massive target.
“If there was ever a time in the series when Surya needed to shift from fifth gear to third gear, it was in Rajkot. He wasn’t chasing a target of 210 or 220. The target was achievable; he just needed to play smartly and pace his innings.”
