Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s Residence Raided Amid Delhi Election Tensions
With just a few days left for the Delhi Assembly elections, political activity in the capital has intensified. The elections have also drawn in neighboring states, with Haryana being linked due to the pollution in the Yamuna River, and now Punjab has also entered the spotlight.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that the Election Commission conducted a raid at the Delhi residence of Punjab Chief Minister and AAP leader Bhagwant Mann. However, election officials have clarified their position, stating that the flying squad had actually raided Kapurthala House following allegations of money distribution. However, they were not allowed to enter the premises.
Election Commission’s Response
Election Officer O.P. Pandey, while addressing the media, stated:
“We received a complaint that money was being distributed from this location. As per rules, we must address such complaints within 100 minutes. Our flying squad arrived for inspection but was denied entry. That is why I had to intervene. We have now requested permission for the flying squad to enter with cameras.”
Pandey also mentioned that the complaint was filed through the CVGIL app, a platform used to report election-related violations.
AAP’s Strong Reaction
Following this action by the Election Commission, AAP has strongly retaliated. Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal questioned the move, stating:
“While BJP leaders are freely distributing money and gifts to voters, why is the Election Commission targeting the Punjab Chief Minister instead of taking action against them?”
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann also condemned the raid in a post on X, saying:
“The Election Commission, along with Delhi Police, raided my residence in Delhi. Meanwhile, BJP leaders are openly distributing money in Delhi, yet the authorities ignore them. Instead, they are targeting us. This is a deliberate attempt by the Delhi Police and the Commission to defame Punjabis at the behest of the BJP. This is unacceptable.”
