Fancy or VIP number plates have become increasingly popular, with many car owners now desiring unique or personalized registration numbers. However, owning a VIP number now comes at a higher cost. The Punjab Transport Department has significantly increased the fees for choice number plates or VIP numbers.
Price Hike for VIP Numbers
If you live in Punjab and are planning to get a VIP number plate for your new vehicle, be prepared to pay nearly double the original amount. For example, if you want the number 0001 for your car, the fee has increased from ₹2.5 lakh to a staggering ₹5 lakh.
According to News18, this price hike will affect several choice numbers as follows:
- 0001: ₹5 lakh (previously ₹2.5 lakh)
- 0002 to 0009, 0786: ₹2 lakh (previously ₹25,000)
- 0010 to 0099: ₹1 lakh (previously ₹12,500)
- Special Numbers (e.g., 0100, 0200, 0300, 0400, 0500, 0600, 0700, 0800, 0900, 1000, 0101, 0111, 0777, 0888, 0999, 1701, 0295, 1313): ₹1 lakh
- 2000, 3000, 4000: ₹50,000
- 0123: ₹20,000
- Other Unique Numbers: ₹10,000
Increase in Prices
- 0001: Increased by ₹2.5 lakh (from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh)
- 0002 to 0009: Increased by ₹1.75 lakh (from ₹25,000 to ₹2 lakh)
- 0010 to 0099: Increased by ₹87,500 (from ₹12,500 to ₹1 lakh)
- Other Fancy Numbers: Previously priced at ₹5,000, the fees for such numbers have now been raised to ₹10,000 to ₹20,000
