Jaya Bachchan’s Controversial Statement on the Mahakumbh Mela Stampede
The stampede incident at the Mahakumbh Mela took place last week, resulting in the tragic death of 30 devotees. The incident occurred on the day of Mauni Amavasya, when thousands of devotees gathered to take a holy dip. Around 3 AM, the crowd suddenly surged, leading to a stampede.
Now, Jaya Bachchan has made a controversial statement regarding the incident in Prayagraj.
What Did Jaya Bachchan Say?
Speaking on the tragedy, Jaya Bachchan stated:
“There was a stampede during the Mahakumbh Mela, and the bodies of the deceased devotees were thrown into the river, polluting the water. Even today, if you ask where the most polluted water is, it is at the Mahakumbh Mela. No proper cleaning is done there, and no one gives any explanation about what really happened. Now, questions are being raised, and the same people responsible are giving the answers. The poor and weak do not get VIP treatment—only VIPs receive special privileges. There are no proper arrangements for common people. It is a blatant lie that crores of people came to Prayagraj. Just think—how is it possible for so many people to gather?”
“Bodies Were Thrown Into the Water…”
Jaya Bachchan further claimed that the water was polluted due to the bodies being thrown into the river, and that this contaminated water is still reaching the people. She also accused the authorities of covering up the incident, alleging that autopsies were not conducted on the deceased, and their bodies were disposed of directly in the river.
“Now, the same BJP is giving speeches on water conservation. What about the polluted water at the Mahakumbh Mela?” she questioned.
What Really Happened in Prayagraj?
The ongoing Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj witnessed a stampede last Wednesday during the ‘Mauni Amavasya’ bathing ritual. The incident occurred at around 2 AM, leaving 30 dead and 60 injured, according to Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Vaibhav Krishna. However, many are surprised that official figures were only released in the evening—more than 12 hours after the accident.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident.
Huge Crowd Gathers for Mauni Amavasya
‘Mauni Amavasya‘ is considered the most auspicious day for taking a dip at the Sangam. It is also the day of the second royal bath of saints. On Wednesday, six to eight crore devotees had reportedly arrived in Prayagraj to participate in the festival.
The state government and Mahakumbh authorities had claimed they were prepared to manage the massive crowd. However, at around 2 AM, the sudden movement of a large number of devotees toward the Sangam led to a stampede, resulting in the death of 30 people.
Now, MP Jaya Bachchan’s statement has sparked controversy. Will the BJP respond to her allegations? It remains to be seen.
