IND vs ENG 3rd ODI Updates
The third and final match of the three-match ODI series between India and England is being played in Ahmedabad. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
During the match, players from both teams were seen wearing green armbands. When Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler arrived for the toss, they had green bands on their arms. The reason behind this gesture is special.
Usually, players wear black armbands to pay tribute after the passing of a sportsperson. However, this time, the armband color is different, and so is the reason behind it. The BCCI has launched a special campaign, which led to this decision.
England Cricket explained the reason in a post on X (formerly Twitter), which was later reshared by the BCCI. The BCCI also shared a photo of the coin toss and clarified the purpose of the green armbands. In their post, they wrote:
“Both teams are wearing green armbands to support BCCI’s ‘Donate Organs, Save Lives’ initiative. This initiative is being led by ICC President Shri Jay Shah. Take the pledge, spread the message, and be part of a meaningful cause.”
Before the third ODI, BCCI had posted a video announcing the implementation of this initiative in the final match of the series. The board also shared a video featuring Indian players encouraging people to donate organs.
As for the match, India is batting first after England won the toss and chose to bowl. However, India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, mentioned that he would have preferred to bat first. India had won both previous ODIs by chasing the target, but in this match, it will be interesting to see how the team performs while setting a target.
India suffered an early blow as captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed in the second over. However, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill have steadied the innings.
