India’s Got Latent Case in Supreme Court: Podcaster Ranveer Allahabadia Slammed by Judges
Podcaster Ranveer Allahabadia has been reprimanded by the Supreme Court over his objectionable comments on his YouTube show India’s Got Latent. Cases have been filed against him in Maharashtra and Assam, prompting him to seek relief from the Supreme Court. However, during the ongoing hearing, the court criticized him sharply.
Supreme Court’s Strong Remarks
The court firmly stated:
“In the name of freedom of expression, no one has been given a license to speak against the norms of society. If this is not obscenity, then what is it? Why should we cancel the FIRs against you or club them together?”
According to PTI, the court also condemned his remarks, saying:
“This person is full of garbage. Your words will embarrass parents and sisters. The entire society will be ashamed of this.”
Interim Protection from Arrest
Despite the criticism, the Supreme Court granted interim relief from arrest to Ranveer Allahabadia on Tuesday. The bench, comprising Justices Suryakant and N. Kotishwar Singh, directed that Allahabadia must deposit his passport at the Thane police station. The court also ruled that he cannot leave India without prior permission.
What Led to the Controversy?
Ranveer Allahabadia sparked public outrage after making vulgar jokes on an episode of comedian Samay Raina’s India’s Got Talent. Although the show was intended for a limited audience, clips went viral, leading to a backlash. The controversy resulted in multiple FIRs being registered against him in Maharashtra and Assam.
Following widespread criticism, Allahabadia issued a public apology, admitting that he had crossed all limits. Meanwhile, Samay Raina has also deleted all his videos on YouTube in response to the backlash.
