Google Pay to Launch AI Voice Command Feature for UPI Payments
Currently, if you want to send money, whether it’s one rupee or one lakh, Google Pay is available to you 24/7. When you make a purchase, you need to ask the merchant or shopkeeper for the scanner, open the Google Pay app on your mobile, and make the payment through the scanner. However, mistakes can occur, such as entering the PIN instead of the payment amount, leading to confusion. To avoid such issues, Google Pay is introducing a Voice Assistance Feature.
AI-Powered Voice Commands for UPI Payments
Google Pay users in India are set to benefit from AI-powered voice commands. It is reported that soon UPI payments will be processed just by speaking. Sharath Bulusu, Principal Product Manager at Google Pay in India, explained that this voice feature will simplify the digital payment process significantly. While information on the feature is still limited, it’s expected to be a game-changer for those who rely on UPI for transactions.
Voice Assistance for Easier Payments
The introduction of voice commands will make it easier for even illiterate users to make digital payments. The transformative voice feature is set to be launched soon, allowing users to handle transactions through spoken instructions. Additionally, Google has partnered with the Government of India on an AI project to enable payments in local languages, making digital transactions more inclusive.
AI & Machine Learning to Combat Cyber Fraud
Google is also investing in machine learning and AI technologies to combat cyber fraud in India. This feature could play a significant role in protecting customers from online scams and threats, particularly given the increasing digital transaction landscape in India.
Google Pay’s Market Presence
Google Pay and PhonePe dominate the UPI payment market in India. According to a November 2024 report, Google Pay accounts for 37% of total UPI transactions, while PhonePe holds 47.8%. Together, these platforms control over 80% of the UPI market share in India. With the upcoming voice feature, more users are likely to turn to Google Pay, further expanding its user base.
