In a surprising move, the BJP announced Rekha Gupta as the Chief Minister of Delhi. Her oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for today, with all necessary preparations in place. Reports suggest that six other BJP leaders, along with Chief Minister-designate Rekha Gupta, will take oath as cabinet ministers today. Meanwhile, political circles are abuzz with speculation about Parvesh Verma, who defeated AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, and his potential role in the new government.
Ministers Taking Oath Today
According to India Today, the following BJP leaders will take oath as cabinet ministers in Delhi on Thursday:
- Parvesh Verma
- Kapil Mishra
- Manjinder Singh Sirsa
- Ravindra Raj
- Ashish Sood
- Pankaj Singh
The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Ramlila Maidan. Parvesh Verma, a prominent Jat leader in Delhi, gained significant attention after defeating former Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency. Given his stature, there is widespread speculation about whether he will be appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister.

When asked about the possibility of being named Deputy Chief Minister, Parvesh Verma responded, “I will diligently fulfill any responsibility given by the party.” Speaking to the media, he added, “I have always been a dedicated BJP worker and will remain so. The BJP made my father the Chief Minister of Delhi, and he served the party until his last breath. I will sincerely carry out any role entrusted to me by the party.”
Meanwhile, Kapil Mishra, Ashish Sood, Pankaj Singh, Ravindra Raj, and Manjinder Singh Sirsa secured victories from Karawal Nagar, Janakpuri, Vikaspuri, Bawana, and Rajouri Garden constituencies, respectively.
Delhi Gets Its Fourth Woman Chief Minister
Rekha Gupta will be sworn in as Delhi’s fourth woman Chief Minister. Previously, Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi held this position. Gupta won the Shalimar Bagh constituency seat by defeating AAP candidate Vandana Kumar and Congress candidate Parveen Kumar Jain with a margin of 29,595 votes.
This victory marks the BJP’s return to power in Delhi after 27 years.
