Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Sunday criticized left-wing policies, accusing them of viewing global conservatives as deceitful.
“The left claims that when leaders like U.S. President Donald Trump, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and I come together, it is a threat to democracy. However, when left-wing leaders unite, they are praised,” Meloni expressed her displeasure.
Meloni participated in the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington via video link from Rome. During her speech, she praised Donald Trump and criticized the left for being disappointed by his victory.
“In the 1990s, when former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair created a network of left-liberal leaders on a global scale, they were called diplomats. Today, when Trump, Argentine President Javier Milei, Modi, or I communicate, we are labeled as a threat to democracy. This is hypocrisy,” Meloni said.
“But we have grown accustomed to this hypocrisy. No matter how much they try to discredit us, people no longer believe their lies—they vote for us,” she added, sharply criticizing left-liberal leaders.
She also expressed hope that, despite increased tensions between the U.S. and Europe over Ukraine, the two sides will remain united.
