The Undertaker discussed his career, legacy, Goldberg Match, retirement, and WrestleMania streak among other things in a recent interview with Chris Van Vilet on the latter’s YouTube channel.
The WWE hall of famer addressed his disastrous match against Goldberg, regretting his own performance, recounting the expectations he held in keeping with the hype for the dream contest and his frustration in the aftermath .
The Undertaker discussed about Goldberg Match
He said, ” … The match I had with Goldberg in Saudi Arabia, you know I should have picked up on the fact that he had his bell rung and then rung it again when he hit the post. I should have been sharp enough to adapt at that point and not get to where I was getting…. It was a scary match to be in… ”
“The worst thing as you get older are the breaks. When you have long periods of time that you don’t work and that as you get older, you lose that sharpness, the mental quickness to figure out things and that was something I always really prided myself on; if something happened, knowing what to do and in that match, I was so like I am gonna make this good, make this good and I didn’t have enough mental acuity and physical attributes to turn that around .. Still it was nobody’s fault, what happened happened…. I was pissed because you don’t get many opportunities especially that late in your career to do a first.”
I had never worked with Goldberg and you know the Saudis, for all the good and all the bad, pay a lot of money and they paid a lot of money to get us to come over there for that and regardless I always like to live up to my name and I really felt like I had let people down, I had let myself down because I hold a higher standard for myself than what anyone else does. I mean I can get over what anyone else thinks of me but what I want out of me is the very best and you know it happened and turned into a trainwreck and I was extremely pissed but mostly because I knew it wasn’t good. He probably had a concussion and my back I thought was broken and it was just one of those moments(referring to his ire post match) and the frustration of the whole thing”.
Undertaker also discussed the concussion he suffered in his WrestleMania contest again Brock Lesnar, and Gunther, Cody Rhodes, Triple H and more in the 2 hour long interview.
While Undertaker has transitioned into content creation in Youtube post retirement, fellow WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg recently on the “Busted Open Radio” Podcast voiced his intentions of returning to the ring for one final match before really calling it quits.”
