Suryakumar Yadav opens up about David Miller’s match-winning catch in the T20 World Cup 2024 final. He disclosed this in an exclusive interview to India Today. Miller hit hard on Hardik Pandya’s first full toss, which flew high in the air and headed for the boundary. There, Suryakumar was close to the boundary line. For a moment it looked as if the ball would cross the boundary, but Suryakumar did a superb job with a brilliant catch to seal the win for the team.
Suryakumar said of the catch, “It’s easy to say now, but at the time it felt like the ball was not the trophy crossing the boundary. I did what I could at the time and the wind was also a good factor at that time. That helped me a bit. Also, we have practiced a lot with our fielding coach and made many such catches successfully. So when it’s such a big moment in a match, it’s very important for us to be in context.”
Suryakumar also said that there was a moment when he felt that the match was slipping away from him. However, he believed that Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh could swing the match back in India’s favour.
“I think it’s a very fun game. It is a game that builds excitement till the last ball is bowled. It was like that, I’m telling the truth. At some point we felt that our victory was too far away. But in the last two months, the hard work done in two years, especially after the T20 World Cup 2022, kept on thinking. This was what was going through my mind during the last 5 to 6 overs of the match. Bumrah then had 2 overs and Arshdeep 1 over and they had consistently performed well. So I believed that these guys can turn the game around,” said Suryakumar.
