Hemant Soren, released from jail in a money laundering case, took oath as the 13th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on Thursday. Governor CP Radhakrishnan invited Champai Soren to form the government. Soren’s father and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha supremo Shibu Soren, his mother Rupi Soren, wife Kalpana Soren and senior leaders of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led alliance were present at the swearing-in ceremony.
Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was given a big relief by the Jharkhand High Court on June 28. The court granted his bail in the Anchal land scam case. The hearing of the case was completed on June 13. The court then announced the reserved verdict last week. After coming out of jail, there was talk that Hemant Soren will once again take over the reins of Jharkhand, which is now coming true. After the resignation of Champai Soren, Hemant Soren will now take oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
The Enforcement Directorate had started an investigation into the illegal sale and purchase of 4.55 acres of land held by the Army in Ranchi. In this case, the ED had arrested Bhanu Pratap Prasad, revenue sub-inspector of Ranchi’s Badagain zone. A large number of government documents and mobile phones were also seized from his residence at that time. The ED then shifted its front to Hemant Soren. He was also arrested on January 31, 2024. As a result, he resigned from the post of Chief Minister.
Hemant Soren claimed to form the government after Champai Soren, who was sworn in as the 12th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on February 2, resigned after the arrest of Hemant Soren. Before taking oath, Hemant Soren released a video message on X and tried to reprimand those who are drunk on power. “Today the opinion of the people of Jharkhand will rise again. Based on several FIRs filed by the Jharkhand Police and the West Bengal Police against Pradeep Bagchi, Vishnu Kumar Aggarwal, Bhanu Pratap Prasad and others, the ED registered a case under sections of the Money Laundering Act. ED has so far arrested 14 accused while the investigation in this case is going on. The investigation revealed that these accused had fraudulently transferred the plots in favor of the land mafia with the connivance of the government officials. After this, Hemant Soren was arrested. He was in judicial custody since January 31. After almost six months, former Chief Minister Hemant Soren came.
