Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah Rested for India vs Sri Lanka Series: India’s youth cricket team is currently touring Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series. After this, Team India has to play a series of three T20Is and three ODIs against Sri Lanka. For that, the Indian team will leave for Sri Lanka. The T20 series against Sri Lanka will be held at the end of July. The ODI series will start from August 2. But senior Indian players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah will not be seen playing for this ODI and T20 series.
According to a report in Indian Express, the Indian Cricket Board wants the T20 World Cup winning captain and two other senior players to get more rest. Rohit, Virat and Bumrah will return to the squad for the Test series in September. India have two Tests and three T20Is to play in India against Bangladesh in September.
Three ODIs and three T20Is will be played during the tour of Sri Lanka from July 27 to August 7. While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from T20 cricket after the recent World Cup, Bumrah has said that he will continue to play for the country. The selection committee will meet next week to select the team.
“The senior players can take some rest and get ready for the next full cricket season. Rohit, Virat and Bumrah have been rested and will join the squad for the Tests against Bangladesh in September,” a BCCI source told The Indian Express.
After Bangladesh, the Indian team will play three Test matches against New Zealand from October 16 to November 5. The New Zealand team will tour India for these matches. The team will then leave for a four-match T20I series against South Africa from November 8 to 15. The team will then leave for Australia for the five-match Test series starting from November 22.
