Rahul Dravid has stepped down as the coach of the Indian team. Meanwhile, Dravid has decided not to take half of the additional amount given by the BCCI as prize money for the T20 World Cup. BCCI has announced a prize money of 125 crores for the T20 World Cup winning team. Out of this, Rs 5 crore will be given to the players and the head coach. But a report has come out that Dravid will not take half of the prize money of Rs 5 crore. But what is the real reason for this, let’s know.
The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team won the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating South Africa in the final. After this historic win, the BCCI announced that a total of Rs 125 crores will be awarded to the team, coaching staff and support staff. Along with the players in the team, head coach Rahul Dravid was also discussed to be paid Rs 5 crore, while the other coaches of the team were to be paid Rs 2.5 crore.
But Dravid asked the board to reduce his prize money by Rs 2.5 crore. The reason behind this is very special, because Rahul Dravid does not want to take more than the prize money of his coaching staff. According to the report, a BCCI source said- Rahul wants the same bonus amount (Rs 2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambre, fielding coach T Dilip and batting coach Vikram Rathore) and we respect their sentiments. .
This is exactly what Dravid did as the head coach of India’s Under-19 World Cup winning team in 2018. At that time, Dravid was to get Rs 50 lakh, while other members of the support staff were to get Rs 20 lakh each. The players were to get Rs 30 lakh each, but Dravid refused to split the prize money, forcing the BCCI to pay each equally. The board then released a revised list of cash awards, in which each member of the support staff, including Dravid, received Rs 25 lakh.
