AAP vs Congress in Delhi
The Delhi Assembly elections are approaching, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified its criticism of the Congress. AAP has warned that if the Congress does not take action against Delhi Congress leader Ajay Maken, it will demand the removal of the Congress party from the INDIA alliance.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh have accused the Congress of aiding the BJP in the upcoming elections. They stated, “The Congress is assisting the BJP to gain an advantage in the Delhi Assembly elections. Ajay Maken follows the BJP’s script, makes statements at their behest, and targets AAP leaders on their instructions. Yesterday, he crossed all limits by calling our leader Arvind Kejriwal a traitor.”
24-Hour Ultimatum
Addressing the media, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said, “Ajay Maken has crossed all boundaries. The Congress must take action against him within 24 hours. If not, we will reach out to the constituent parties of the INDIA alliance and demand Congress’s removal from the coalition.”
Allegations of BJP Funding Congress Candidates
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi further criticized the Congress, alleging collusion with the BJP. “The actions and words of the Congress clearly show a ‘tie-up’ with the BJP for the Delhi elections. Has the Congress ever filed a police complaint against the BJP? No. But they are filing cases against AAP leaders,” she said.
Atishi added, “Yesterday, Congress accused Arvind Kejriwal of being anti-national and even filed a case against both of us. Have they ever taken similar action against BJP leaders? We have credible information that the BJP is funding Congress candidates’ election expenses.”
Upcoming Delhi Assembly Elections
The Delhi Assembly elections are expected to take place in February 2025, though the Election Commission has yet to announce the official dates. Historically, the Congress ruled Delhi for 15 consecutive years but has performed poorly in the last two Assembly elections. In 2020, AAP won a resounding victory with 62 seats, while the BJP secured 8 seats.
