Wi-Fi Now Available on Domestic Air India Flights
Great news for air passengers in India! Domestic flyers will now have access to in-flight internet, allowing them to stay connected during their journeys. Passengers can browse social media, check emails, and stream their favorite shows and movies while in the air. Air India announced today that it will provide Wi-Fi internet services on both domestic and international flights, becoming the first Indian airline to offer such a facility.
Initially, the Wi-Fi service will be available on select Air India aircraft, including the Airbus 350, Boeing 787-9, and Airbus 321 Neo. While the airline has already introduced internet connectivity on its international flights, the service will now roll out domestically. In the initial phase, the facility will be offered free of charge on the selected aircraft. Gradually, Air India plans to expand this feature across its entire fleet.
This service allows passengers to connect their laptops, tablets, and smartphones to the internet once the aircraft reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet. However, the availability of in-flight internet may vary depending on factors like connectivity, bandwidth, flight route, and government regulations.
Speaking on the development, Air India official Rajesh Dogra stated, “Connectivity has now become an integral part of modern travel. Some need the internet for real-time sharing, while others require it for work. Whatever the purpose, we are confident our guests will appreciate this service and enjoy the new Air India experience.”
Although in-flight internet is a relatively new feature in India, it has been available on international airlines for years. Recently, Hawaiian Airlines began offering free, high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi on several flights using Starlink’s low-orbit satellite network. Similarly, United Airlines is testing Starlink’s fast Wi-Fi service, and Qatar Airways has also partnered with Starlink for enhanced in-flight connectivity.
