Asha Bhosle on Her Relationship with Lata Mangeshkar
Asha Bhosle had a special bond with her sister, Lata Mangeshkar, another legendary figure in Indian music. However, when it came to their professional lives, Lata Mangeshkar maintained a strictly formal approach while recording songs.
Speaking on Amrita Rao and RJ Anmol’s podcast ‘Couple of Things’, Asha Bhosle revealed:
“At home, Didi (Lata Mangeshkar) was very normal and we spoke in Marathi. But outside, in the professional world, she would always speak to me formally and softly. When it came to music, she was Lata Mangeshkar—the celebrated singer with her own stature.”
Why Asha Bhosle and Her Sisters Wore White Sarees
During the podcast, Asha Bhosle also shared an interesting anecdote about why she and her sisters preferred wearing white sarees in their younger days.
“Apart from Didi and me, our other sisters also used to wear white sarees. We felt that white sarees suited us. We thought that if we wore colored sarees, we might look even darker. So, we always chose white. Later, I started wearing pink sarees, and Didi gave me a puzzled look, as if to ask—’When did this change happen?’ From then on, I started wearing pink sarees at home. Back then, sarees from Kolkata were more affordable, so we often bought them from there.”
