State Bureau, Ranchi: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is providing loans for the development of cities in Jharkhand. Under this initiative, ADB has approved a loan of ₹1,300 crore for Phase II of the Dhanbad Sewerage Project. With the assistance of ADB, work on drinking water supply projects worth over ₹800 crore is already underway in the state.
To review the progress of these projects, the ADB team met with the Principal Secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department, Sunil Kumar, and discussed various aspects of the projects. The Principal Secretary directed the officials of JUDCO (Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company Limited) to initiate work on the project as soon as possible.
He stated that the completion of the sewerage line would not only ensure cleanliness in the streets, alleys, and neighborhoods of Dhanbad but would also help in controlling pollution. A total expenditure of ₹2,195 crore has been sanctioned for the Dhanbad Sewerage Project, with ₹1,300 crore coming from ADB loans. Additionally, ₹550 crore will be provided through the AMRUT scheme, and the remaining amount will be funded by the state government.
Project cost: ₹800 crore With ADB’s support, work is also underway on urban drinking water supply projects in Hussainabad, Jhumri Telaiya, Medininagar, and Ranchi under Phase II-A. These projects are estimated to cost approximately ₹800 crore. An ADB team reviewed the progress of these water supply projects and expressed satisfaction with the work. The Principal Secretary honored ADB officials Momoka Nita Tada, Vivek Vishal, and others from Manila, Philippines, by presenting them with shawls.
The meeting was attended by SUDA Director Amit Kumar, JUDCO’s Project Director Gopalji, Utkarsh Mishra, and other officials.
