Bomb Threat at Franco-Swiss Airport: This year’s edition of the Olympic Games, which is considered the most prestigious in the world of sports, will officially start in Paris from today, Friday. But even before that, there was a threat to disrupt the rail network in France and now bomb the Franco Swiss airport. So the traffic here was stopped. But, this traffic has been started now.
The airport administration has said that it is not yet clear whether this bomb threat has anything to do with the train arson case. Therefore, since such incidents are happening before the Olympic games, the security systems are ready in France. The terminal had to be evacuated for security reasons, Basel Mulhouse Euro Airport said on its website. But, now this service has been started.
Disruption of rail networks in France
Meanwhile, train services were also suspended in France. Arson has been set on a very busy train line in France. This time, France’s high-speed train network was targeted.
The state-owned rail operator said the arsonists had targeted rail lines on routes linking Paris to the cities of Lille in the north, Bordeaux in the west and Strasbourg in the east. He has appealed to all passengers to temporarily cancel and postpone their journey. Repairs are underway, but traffic will now be disrupted at least through the weekend.
Last night, the SNCF Atlantic, Northern and Eastern high-speed lines were vandalized. The fire was deliberately set to damage our installations”, SNCF said in a statement. The incident has sparked fears at train stations ahead of the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Paris on Friday.
Security tight at Olympics in wake of arson
More than 45 thousand police, more than 10 thousand army, 2 thousand private security guards have been deployed. France is conducting an unprecedented peacetime security operation for security at the Olympic opening. Also, snipers will be conducting surveillance from rooftops and drones. Paris 2024 said it was working closely with SNCF to assess the situation.
Transport Minister Patrice Vergriet has said on X that we strongly condemn such criminal incidents. Work is underway to restore traffic. Sports Minister Amelie Oude Castera said that playing against sports for the Olympics means playing against France, against your own camp, against your own country. It is not yet clear who is behind this attack.
