Ranchi: The Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi has received a bomb threat for the fourth time. On October 28, around 3 p.m., a threatening post was found on the platform “X,” mentioning a plan to blow up a Vistara airline flight. Earlier, similar threats were received on October 22 and September 25, 2024, as well as in May this year. Following these incidents, national security agencies have issued an alert, highlighting a potential security risk to VIP movements at the airport and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) office nearby.
Illegal parking on both sides of the road from the airport terminal to the IMD office could cause an untoward incident. Due to this illegal parking, VIP movements may become unsafe. The IMD center plays a crucial role in guiding airport operations, as weather updates from here determine flight schedules at Ranchi Airport.
With these repeated threats, the airport is now categorized as highly sensitive. The CISF has ramped up security measures, and close surveillance is being maintained on all suspicious activities around the airport. Security checks for passengers have been tightened. Political parties’ star campaigners have begun arriving at the Ranchi Airport in view of the upcoming Assembly elections, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to visit on November 4. Other central ministers and VIPs will also visit during this period, posing additional security challenges. The airport has thus enhanced its security, and discussions with district authorities are ongoing to address external security concerns.
