Bombay Stock Market Today: Nifty50 and Sensex Decline as Global Tensions Impact Investors
After Donald Trump became the President of the United States, some of his key decisions—particularly those regarding tariffs on other countries—had a significant impact on global stock markets. The recent decline in the Indian stock market is still ongoing, leaving investors anxious about what comes next. Even on Monday, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) offered no relief to investors.
Nifty50 Leads the Decline in 2025, Following Sensex’s Downward Trend
The Nifty50 and Sensex have both mirrored each other in their recent declines. On Monday, the Nifty50 set a new record for consecutive sessions of decline, marking its ninth consecutive drop. This decline was previously seen in May 2019.
As soon as the market opened on Monday, the Sensex saw a sharp fall of 590.57 points to reach 73,383 points, a decline of 0.78%. The Nifty fell by 196.15 points, closing at 22,733.10 points. The overall market sentiment was negative, with 765 shares increasing, 1,901 shares decreasing, and 158 shares remaining unchanged.
Who Benefits and Who Loses?
According to a report by Moneycontrol, while shares of companies across various sectors are falling, there have been some mixed performances within the Nifty50 index. The Nifty Realty, Nifty Auto, and Nifty Media sectors experienced sharp declines, ranging between 1.5% to 2.5%. On the other hand, shares of Nifty Pharma and Nifty Media saw a rise in prices.
Positive International Developments?
The political situation at the international level has had long-term effects on the stock market. However, there are now signs of improvement in the global situation. The long-running war between Ukraine and Russia is showing signs of ending, and investors are paying attention to other factors such as:
- Declining crude oil prices
- The depreciation of the US dollar
- Potential interest rate cuts by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in the April Monetary Policy Committee meeting
Despite these global shifts, the Indian stock market is currently facing a period of uncertainty.
