Barhet (Sahibganj): Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren was set to address a conference of village heads organized by the Pargana Aven Baisi in Bhognadih, located in Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s constituency, Barhet. However, on the day prior, Saturday, his health deteriorated, and he had to be admitted to Tata Main Hospital (TMH).
On Sunday, he addressed the village heads online from TMH. Describing Bangladeshi infiltration as a “serious problem” for the Santhal Pargana region, he said that the Manjhi-Pargana (tribal community leadership) must make a decision on this soon. He stated that if the Manjhi-Pargana wishes, they can remove the Bangladeshi infiltrators from the land of Santhals and other tribals.
Expressing regret for not being able to attend the gathering due to his hospitalization, Champai Soren announced that a large public rally would be held on October 14 in Bhognadih, where Manjhi-Pargana members would gather, and urged everyone to attend.
He emphasized that the Manjhi-Pargana system has been recognized in the Constitution, calling it a significant structure. He added that decisions beyond the jurisdiction of the police station could be made within this system. He also criticized Hemant Soren’s government for not taking steps towards implementing the PESA Act, despite the High Court’s directive. He pointed out that worship sites and Sarna lands of the tribals in Santhal are being encroached upon, which must be freed from the infiltrators.
Protect Sido Kanhu’s Land from Infiltrators
Former MLA Lobin Hembrom of Borio stated that issues like jobs for Jharkhandis, the PESA law, employment policies, and local policies were all part of the JMM’s election manifesto, but the government has failed. When he reminded the government of its election promises, he was expelled from the party.
He reiterated his commitment to always raising his voice for the interests of Jharkhandis and vowed to continue fighting. He called for the protection of Sido Kanhu’s land from Bangladeshi infiltrators and for safeguarding water, forests, and land. He also expressed concern that village heads in Jharkhand are deprived of their rights, with plans being approved without the consent of the Gram Sabha.
Hembrom further highlighted that the declining population of tribals is a matter of concern, stressing the need to save Jharkhand. He urged everyone to take a pledge to create a prosperous Jharkhand.
