Champions Trophy 2025: Semi-Final Scenario for Group B
The Champions Trophy 2025 tournament has now reached its final stage. The eight participating teams have been divided into two groups. In Group A, the situation is clear. India and New Zealand have qualified for the semi-finals, while Pakistan and Bangladesh have been eliminated from the tournament. However, the semi-final scenario in Group B remains complicated. Every match from here on will be crucial in determining which team will face India in the semi-finals.
Group A consists of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. Both India and New Zealand have won their first two matches and secured their spots in the semi-finals. However, before the semi-finals, they will face each other in a group match, which will determine which team finishes at the top of Group A.
Group B consists of Afghanistan, England, South Africa, and Australia. England has lost both of its opening matches and is out of the tournament. Now, South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan are still in contention for the semi-finals. Due to a match being abandoned due to rain, South Africa and Australia both have three points each, while Afghanistan has two points after winning one match.
Semi-Final Qualification Scenarios for Group B:
- If Australia defeats Afghanistan, they will secure their place in the semi-finals with 5 points.
- If Afghanistan wins against Australia, they will qualify for the semi-finals with 4 points.
South Africa will play its final group match against England on Saturday in Karachi.
- If South Africa defeats England, they will directly qualify for the semi-finals, and Australia will be eliminated.
- If England wins against South Africa, the semi-final spot will be decided based on net run rate.
Who Will Face India in the Semi-Finals?
The match between India and New Zealand will determine which team tops Group A. After that match, India’s semi-final opponent will be decided. India will face one of Australia, South Africa, or Afghanistan in the semi-final, which is scheduled to be played on March 2 in Dubai. The final semi-final picture will become clear after the remaining Group B matches.
