‘Chhaava’ Movie: Vicky Kaushal & Team Recall Emotional Moments on Set
The film ‘Chhaava’, depicting the heroic story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, is set to release on February 14. Starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles, the movie has generated immense curiosity among Shiv lovers ever since its trailer was released.
In a recent interview with ‘Lokmat Filmi’, Vicky Kaushal and director Laxman Utekar shared some deeply emotional moments they experienced while filming the coronation ceremony scene.
Director Laxman Utekar on Filming the Coronation Scene
Director Laxman Utekar revealed that the team had recreated Raigad Fort at Film City, ensuring the set was as authentic as possible. Their production designer conducted thorough research at Raigad before constructing the set.
“We set up the court exactly as it would have been during Maharaj’s time. Around 700 to 800 people were present on the set for the coronation scene. Normally, we don’t take more than two to three takes for a shot, but for this scene, we had to do 15 takes. Vicky and I have a strong understanding, and we often communicate just with our eyes. But when Vicky reached the throne’s mark, he couldn’t hold back his tears,” said Utekar.
He further added, “Since a king cannot cry in front of his people, I kept telling him, ‘No tears.’ But eventually, Vicky came up to me, hugged me, and broke down, saying, ‘Sir, I don’t know why, but I just can’t stop my tears.’ That day, everyone on set—Vicky, Rashmika, the 700 junior artists, crew members—were all crying. It was an incredibly emotional moment for all of us.”
Vicky Kaushal on the Unexpected Emotions
Vicky Kaushal also admitted that he didn’t expect such an emotional reaction.
“We knew we would feel sad while shooting the ending of the film, but we never thought we would get so emotional during the coronation scene,” Vicky shared.
The deep connection to history, the powerful storytelling, and the grandeur of the scene made the moment overwhelming for everyone involved.
