Cold Wave Intensifies in Ranchi and Surrounding Areas
The winter chill continues to grip Ranchi and nearby regions, with the cold wave spreading across Jharkhand. In some places, temperatures are so low that a further drop of 2-3°C could lead to frost formation. Stepping out of homes has become increasingly difficult for residents.
Record-Breaking Temperatures in Kanke and McCluskieganj
In Kanke, near the state capital Ranchi, the minimum temperature has dropped to 2.5°C, marking a significant decline over the past week. Frost formation has begun as dew drops freeze. With cold winds blowing at 1.4 km/h, nights feel like a cold wave in the region.
In McCluskieganj, the temperature has recorded 3.5°C. Despite this, the local administration has not made adequate arrangements for bonfires or heating provisions.
Weather Forecast for the Next Three Days
The cold is making life tough for people, with many struggling to cope. According to the Meteorological Centre in Ranchi, the minimum temperature in the state is expected to gradually rise by 2-4°C over the next three days. After that, no significant changes in minimum temperature are anticipated for the following two days.
From December 18 to 20, light to moderate fog or mist is expected in Ranchi and nearby districts, with clear skies predicted afterward. On December 20, southern areas including East and West Singhbhum, Simdega, and Seraikela-Kharsawan may experience partly cloudy skies and light rainfall in some places.
Struggles Amid the Cold
As temperatures continue to drop, people are relying on bonfires and heaters to stay warm, stepping out only for essential tasks. The homeless, particularly those living on footpaths, are among the worst affected. Typically, Kanke experiences colder temperatures than the urban areas of Ranchi.
Weather Over the Last 24 Hours
In the past 24 hours, the weather across the state remained dry, though some regions experienced cold wave conditions. The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Godda at 26.6°C, while the lowest minimum temperature was in Gumla at 4.9°C.
