Delhi Assembly Election: AAP Targets Congress and Rahul Gandhi in Social Media Campaign
With only a few days left for the Delhi Assembly elections, the political campaigning has reached its peak. This year, Delhi is witnessing a three-way contest, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the main contenders, while the Congress is also in the fray independently.
Both AAP and BJP are campaigning vigorously on the ground and across social media platforms. In a surprising move, AAP has, for the first time, directly targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on social media. AAP shared a digital poster on X (formerly Twitter) featuring a list of “dishonest leaders,” including Rahul Gandhi.
The poster prominently displays a photo of AAP convener and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, with the tagline: “Kejriwal’s honesty, all dishonest people will fall on him.” Below Kejriwal’s photo are images of leaders labeled “dishonest” by AAP. These include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
This move comes after Rahul Gandhi recently criticized the AAP government’s performance in Delhi. Addressing a public meeting on Thursday, Gandhi remarked, “The development that took place during the tenure of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit did not happen under Arvind Kejriwal’s tenure. Delhi needs the real development model of Sheila Dikshit, not the false propaganda and PR-driven model of Prime Minister Modi and AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal.”
Rahul Gandhi further accused Kejriwal of failing to address rising pollution, corruption, and inflation in the capital. He alleged that both Prime Minister Modi and Kejriwal are indifferent to the rights and welfare of marginalized communities, including Dalits and tribals.
The AAP poster also features Congress leaders Ajay Maken and Sandeep Dikshit, the son of Sheila Dikshit. Ajay Maken had earlier referred to Kejriwal as a “traitor,” while Sandeep Dikshit is contesting against Kejriwal from the New Delhi assembly constituency.
As the political battle intensifies, it remains to be seen how this exchange of allegations and counter-allegations will influence voter sentiments in Delhi.
