Donald Trump Blames Ukraine for War
After assuming office as the President of the United States, Donald Trump has made a series of decisions and announcements, keeping him in the global spotlight. Now, he has targeted Ukraine, blaming it for starting the war. The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has been ongoing for almost three years following Russia’s invasion.
On Tuesday, the US and Russia held talks in Riyadh to discuss ways to end the war. After the meeting, Trump made his statement, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky protested Ukraine’s exclusion from these talks.
Expressing disappointment over Zelensky’s protest, Trump said, “You (Ukraine) shouldn’t have started this war. You could have made a deal. I could have made a deal for Ukraine. They would have gotten almost all their land, and not a single person would have been killed, not a single city would have been destroyed.”
“Russia wants to do something. They want to stop the war. I believe I have the power to end this war,” Trump added after the Riyadh meeting.
Earlier in Riyadh, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the parties involved in the US-Russia talks had agreed to establish a high-level team to promote peace in Ukraine and enhance economic cooperation.
The US and Russian delegations met in Riyadh for more than four hours on Tuesday, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also in attendance.
The Beginning of the Russia-Ukraine War
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine began on February 24, 2022, when Russia launched military operations across Ukraine’s borders. Since then, the war has led to significant global consequences. Many countries have supported Ukraine in its defense while imposing severe economic sanctions on Russia. This war has caused numerous civilian casualties, and millions of people have been displaced as refugees.
At the start of the war, Russia launched airstrikes and military attacks on major Ukrainian cities. Ukraine has put up strong resistance to defend its national security. Western nations have supplied weapons, ammunition, and financial assistance to aid Ukraine’s military efforts. The conflict has also had a significant impact on the global economy, particularly in the oil and gas industries.
