Fire at Mahakumbh 2025: 15 Tents Destroyed After Stampede Tragedy
Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh – A fire broke out today in Sector 22 of the Mahakumbh Mela, destroying 15 tents. This incident comes just a day after a tragic stampede on Mauni Amavasya, which claimed 30 lives and left 60 injured.
A police official stated, “We received information about a fire in the tents. Upon reaching the spot, we found that 15 tents were affected. Immediate action was taken to extinguish the fire and bring it under control.”
Sector 22 of Mahakumbh is located between Chhatnag Ghat and Nageshwar Ghat in Jushi. The sudden fire in one of the tents alerted devotees, who promptly informed the fire brigade. The fire department responded swiftly, preventing any loss of life as no civilians were present in the affected area. Senior officials have arrived at the scene, but the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Previous Incidents
This is not the first fire incident at the Mahakumbh Mela. On January 19, at around 4:30 PM, a fire broke out in the Geeta Press camp in Sector 19 near Shastri Bridge. That incident resulted in the destruction of 180 cottages.
Police officer Pramod Sharma confirmed, “Our team arrived at the scene as soon as we received information about the fire in the pavilion. Due to accessibility challenges, there was a slight delay in reaching the affected area. However, the fire was brought under control, and there was no loss of life.”
Authorities are now investigating both fire incidents while ensuring safety measures are in place to prevent further mishaps.
