People Rescued from Rising Waters of Son River in Garhwa District, Jharkhand
In the Garhwa district of Jharkhand, 50 people from the villages of Garhwa district and Tiura village in Rohtas district, Bihar, were trapped in the Son River due to a sudden rise in the water level near Lohargada village under the Hariharpur OP area of Bhawnathpur police station.
More than a hundred livestock were also stranded in the floodwaters. After receiving information about the situation on Sunday night, the district administration promptly began rescue operations. The NDRF team from Bihta, Bihar, started the rescue operation early Monday morning. Seventeen people from Lohargada and two from Merauni village were successfully rescued.
Twenty-one people from Tiura village in Rohtas district, Bihar, were also successfully rescued from the Son River. Meanwhile, the water level of the Son River has started to recede. During this operation, Sribanshidhar Nagar SDO Prabhakar Mirdha, SDPO Satyendra Narayan Singh, and other administrative officials camped at Lohargada from Sunday night until the rescue was completed.
Additionally, Rohtas Bihar SDM Vandana Kumari also joined the NDRF team in the rescue efforts to save the stranded people in the Son River.
It is worth mentioning that the Son River creates islands due to sediment deposits, where people engage in farming and some even build temporary or permanent residences. During this time, the rising water levels trapped the people of Lohargada and Tiura in the middle of the river. The successful rescue of all the stranded people brought relief to the administration.
