Google Pay Introduces Convenience Fee for Bill Payments
Online payments have become an essential part of daily life. From offices, railway stations, and metro stations to local vegetable shops, digital transactions are now widely used. Many people rely on Google Pay for bill payments. However, if you are one of them, this news is important for you—Google Pay has now introduced a convenience fee for certain transactions.
Google Pay Now Charging Convenience Fees
Online bill payments offer the advantage of instant transactions from the comfort of home, making payments more convenient. Initially, these payments were completely free, but now users are being charged a convenience fee, which has raised concerns among customers.
Several UPI and payment platforms have started imposing additional charges for services like bill payments, increasing the financial burden on users. Now, Google Pay has joined this trend, introducing a service fee for transactions. However, Google Pay has not yet made an official announcement on this matter.
How Much Will You Be Charged?
According to a report by The Economic Times, if you use a credit or debit card for bill payments via Google Pay, you will be charged a fee ranging between 0.5% and 1%, in addition to GST.
So far, Google Pay has not charged any extra fees for bill payments, but this seems to be changing gradually. The report also claims that for the past year, Google Pay has been charging a Rs 3 convenience fee on mobile recharges. Additionally, a user who paid an electricity bill using a credit card was charged a Rs 15 convenience fee.
This processing fee for debit and credit card transactions includes GST, and it is displayed in the app at the time of payment. However, Google Pay has yet to make an official statement regarding this fee structure.
