Ranchi: The Hemant Soren government in Jharkhand is now set to offer better recognition and respect to Jharkhand movement activists. As per the resolution prepared under the instructions of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the pension amount will no longer be provided in three different categories. Instead, all activists will receive a uniform pension. Those activists who went to jail will receive a uniform pension of ₹10,000 per month.
Until now, the pension was distributed in three categories: activists who were jailed for up to three months received ₹3,500 per month, those jailed for up to six months received ₹5,000 per month, and those jailed for more than six months received ₹7,000 per month. The state government is now planning to make this amount uniform at ₹10,000 per month for all eligible activists.
Additionally, activists who did not go to jail but participated in the Jharkhand movement used to receive only a certificate of recognition and respect. Now, such activists will also receive ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 along with their certificate of recognition.
File Sent to Departmental Minister
A file related to granting a uniform pension to Jharkhand movement activists has been sent to Home Department Minister Hemant Soren. Once the Chief Minister, in his capacity as Home Minister, approves the file, it will be forwarded for cabinet approval. Following this, the Home, Jail, and Disaster Management Department will issue the resolution. From the date the resolution is issued, the new system will come into effect, and activists will begin receiving benefits accordingly.
Around 40,000 Activists Identified, Pension for 3,000
To honor those who fought for a separate Jharkhand state, the former Arjun Munda government established the Jharkhand Activists Identification Commission in 2012. Since then, approximately 40,000 activists have been identified. Among them, evidence of imprisonment was found for 3,000 activists, who are currently receiving pensions. A large number of applications from activists are still pending with the commission. After thorough review, only those who meet the set criteria will be recognized as activists and granted benefits as per government norms.
