“In Wayanad, Kerala, a calamity known as the ‘Rudravatar of nature’ unfolded, with heavy rains destroying more than four villages and triggering landslides. Over 300 people lost their lives, and more than 300 remain missing. Amidst this natural fury, numerous heartbreaking and heroic incidents emerged.
Soldiers of the rescue team risked their lives to save children who had sought shelter in a cave in the dense forest of Wayanad. These children had been trapped in the cave for four days without food or water before being rescued by the diligent efforts of the rescue team. Photographs of these soldiers with the rescued children have since gone viral, underscoring their dedication.
The saga began when forest officials discovered a woman wandering in the Kalepatta area, searching for food and water for her children. She informed the soldiers that she and her four children had taken refuge in a cave, with three children still inside, aged between 1 to 4 years.
The rescue team, led by Jawan Hashis, embarked on an exhausting 8-hour mission to reach the remote cave, situated in a valley. Hashis recounted that they had first encountered the distressed mother on Thursday, who informed them about her trapped children. Upon reaching the cave, they found the children exhausted but alive. Providing them with nourishment from their supplies, the team reassured the children and carefully transported them to safety, accompanied by their mother.
Hashis mentioned that the family belonged to the Pania community, known for their seclusion, but the mother’s communication with the rescue team enabled their successful rescue. This story was reported by the Indian Express.”
