India’s Strong Comeback in ODIs
This series is crucial for Champions Trophy preparations, as India has played very few ODIs recently. Before this match, India’s last ODI series was against Sri Lanka in July-August, their first since the 2023 World Cup final.
England All Out for 248 Runs
Batting first, England started aggressively. Mohammed Shami bowled well early on, but debutant Harshit Rana struggled against England’s openers. Phil Salt and Ben Duckett put up a strong partnership, scoring 75 runs in just 9 overs. However, a run-out of Phil Salt turned the game.
Harshit Rana then took charge, dismissing Ben Duckett (32) and Harry Brook (0). Ravindra Jadeja also struck, sending Joe Root (19) back to the pavilion.
In the middle order, young all-rounder Jacob Bethell and captain Jos Buttler stabilized the innings. Buttler (52) scored a half-century before getting out, followed by Bethell (51), who helped England cross the 200-run mark. Later, Jofra Archer (21) hit some big shots, taking England to 248 runs.
For India, Harshit Rana and Jadeja took three wickets each, while Shami, Axar, and Kuldeep Yadav picked up one wicket each.
India’s Chase: Early Setbacks but Strong Recovery
Chasing 249, debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma opened the innings. However, against the superb bowling of Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood, both fell cheaply. Rohit Sharma (2) continued his poor form from the Test series into ODIs as well.
Shreyas Iyer’s Explosive Comeback
After Rohit’s dismissal, Shreyas Iyer played a counter-attacking innings, marking a strong comeback. Shubman Gill and Iyer built a solid partnership, laying the foundation for victory.
Iyer batted aggressively from the start, smashing 2 sixes and 1 four in a single over of Jofra Archer. He reached his half-century in just 30 balls but was unable to convert it into a big score.
